The Northwoods Book Festival is a joint project of seven libraries in northern Wisconsin: Ben Guthrie Lac du Flambeau Public LibraryBoulder Junction Public LibraryFrank B. Koller Memorial Library in Manitowish Waters, Mercer Public LibraryMinocqua Public LibraryPresque Isle Community Library, and Winchester Public Library. It crosses three county lines — Iron, Oneida and Vilas — and unites libraries in two library systems — Northern Waters Library Service and Wisconsin Valley Library Service — to bring communities together.

With funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, these seven libraries will use funds to anchor themselves in the community as strong humanities institutions. The competitive award comes with a $10,000 grant that will help deliver excellent programs and services related to culture, history, literature, and other humanities subjects.

American Rescue Plan: Humanities Grants for Libraries is an initiative of the American Library Association (ALA) made possible with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
