The Lakeland Area Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting at the Minocqua Public Library on August 13 at 1:30 p.m. This month’s program will be a video entitled “Shared DNA matches-the only DNA tool you will ever need” presented by Diahan Southard. This program will provide valuable information to those who have already taken a DNA test and want to make the best use of the test results. For those who have not yet taken a DNA test, they will discover how a DNA test can be used to enhance their genealogy research. Future programs include “Resources for Beginning German Research” followed by a question and answer session, “Where did you find that? Effective Searches on Family Search.org” and “Forensic Genealogy: Law & Order Meets Family History”.

Presented by Dan Scrobell, local history enthusiast. In 1912, a fire which started across from where the post office sits today destroyed most of the buildings along Front Street. Much of the town's business district was destroyed by a major fire in 1912. Many of the buildings on the main street today were designed and built after the fire.
